It aims to discuss current state of Linked Open Data in Asian countries and to exchange views on this topic with participants.

This event is organized as a part of Linked Open Data Challenge Japan 2012 which is the Linked Open Data competition held in Japan to encourage people to think of interesting ways to publish and use open data. Although the LOD Challenge Committee have organized several LOD Challenge Days as domestic event, it drew up a plan to extend the activities to Asia and set up this event as the starting point.

About Linked Open Data Challenge Japan

Linked Open Data Challenge Japan is the linked open data competition held in Japan to encourage people to think of interesting ways to publish and use open data to benefit Japanese citizens. The challenge awards prizes to the most promising and innovative wroks.
To realize an open data society, it is vital to overcome the chicken-and-egg problems of missing open data on the Web and the lack of applications and services to make use of data. Revealing and exposing current closed data which may already be behind most existing Web sites is one way to tackle this problem.
The emerging Linked Open Data movement makes it easy to publish, link, and reuse open data on the Web. Linked Open Data Challenge Japan promotes this movement in Japan by raising awareness, showcasing best practices and cultivating communities of data providers and consumers from a variety of different fields.
* Non-Japanese citizens also can submit their wroks to LOD Challenge Japan.
Committee members support them while there are only Japanse page for submissions.
The detailes information will be announced soon.
